BIS-Grid is a project funded by the BMBF in context of the "D-Grid-Initiative". It is used for Grid-basd integration and orchestration of operational informationssystems. The project is realized in cooperation with OFFIS (coordination), FZ J├╝lich (assoziiert), PC2 and the TU Berlin as well as the industrial parnters CADsys, CeWe Color, KIESELSTEIN and SIS.

Research objectives

Enterprise information systems (EIS) enable the managment of ressourcces of an enterprise (ERP-systems), the efficient managment of customer realtions (CRM-Systems and the aid of the production or service (PDM-systms). In order to build enterprise informations systems it is often neccessary to adjust existing and integrate new systems. To do this efficently http://dict.leo.org/ende/index_de.html#/search=sequence&searchLoc=0&resultOrder=basic&multiwordShowSingle=onsequences of operations have to be supported by workflow-sytems: services a subsystems are orchestrated. Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) is important for the implementation of buissness processes which usually affect several informaton systems - using the orchestartion in service oriented architectures (SOA). Orchestration in SOA aims to connect technoligie and experts efficiently. Since the introduction of grid services with standards as OGSA or WSRF, which are based on web servcie technologies, grid technoligies are classified as SOA. SOA is also important for the EAI. As well asgrid technologies EAI has issues of integration in heterogeneous environments, grid technolgie on ressource level and EAI on application level. In the BIS-Grid project, we aim to develop an extensions for a horizontal service-grid for enterprise information systems. Research objective is the usage of grid technolgies for the integration of decentralized inforamtion systems. On conceptual level new ways of cooperations and business models will be developed. On the technical level the project aims to make WS-BPEL-based orchestration usable for stateful grid services. In this process existing middleware-systems should not be exchanged but integrated in order to allow the interoparability of grid-technoligy and enterprise information systems.
