SLA4D-Grid - Service Level Agreements for the D-Grid

Project goals and benefits

The research project SLA4D-Grid aims to realize a Service Level Agreement (SLA) layer for the D-Grid. This layer will, as shown in the figure, reside between the D-Grid middleware (gLite, Globus, UNICORE) and user level and will be integrated with the already existing infrastructure (e.g. by connecting to selected D-Grid core services). Communities can use the SLA layer either with specific clients or via API. It is a value-added service which has no impact on the present D-Grid utilization, does not interfere with its operation for communities having no SLA needs and thus enables a seamless transition of SLA4D-Grid results into normal operation.

 

The SLA layer guarantees individual users, entire D-Grid communities and D-Grid ressource providers cost-effectiv ressource use. For this purpose, QoS requests and corresponding offers are brought together mandatory by SLAs. Using the SLA layer and additional D-Grid services like Monitoring or Accounting, SLAs can be created automatically, negotiated and monitored regarding their adherence. In that way, academic as well as industrial users can use D-Grid efficiently according to their business model.
